Chesterfield Handed Major Boost As Star Signs New Deal

Chesterfield can breathe a sigh of relief as star player Armando Dobra has signed a new deal at the League Two club.

The Albanian has been at the club since 2022 after joining on a free transfer from Colchester United, having played 117 times for the club and now sees his deal in Derbyshire extended until 2027.

Spireites See Off Transfer Interest

Dobra has been a standout for the club across the first half of the campaign, leading to transfer interest in January from League One side Stockport County amongst other clubs. Club director Ashley Kirk had previously revealed that the club were looking to tie down the 23-year-old to a new deal last Monday.

Speaking to the club’s media following the announcement of the deal, manager Paul Cook said:

“I’m delighted. I think for any club at any level, you don’t want to lose your best players, it doesn’t matter what level you’re playing at.

“Armando has been with us on the journey out of the National League into the Football League and we’re really hopeful that the journey’s going to progress and carry on, and we want Armando to be very much part of that.”

Dobra himself added:

“I’m really happy. It’s a good moment for me and my family to sign a new contract here. It’s a great club, great fan base, good staff.”

Armando Dobra has been an imperative part of their season with 11 goals and two assists and securing him to a new deal, whilst only extending his deal at the club for a further twelve months, is a brilliant move for Chesterfield. He has been a great servant for Paul Cook’s side since joining in 2022, winning the National League title with them and has upon his performances in non-league at a higher level. This deal has firmly sent teams like Stockport County a message that the Albanian isn’t on the market in the summer and possibly beyond.
