Jamie Paterson has completed a return to English football by signing a short-term deal with his boyhood club, Coventry City.
The 33-year-old forward, who previously played for Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest, and Derby County, has left Charlotte FC in the United States to join the Championship side.
Lifelong Coventry City Fan
Paterson, a lifelong Coventry fan, spoke about the significance of the move, describing it as a dream come true.
“It would always be an exciting time to be part of this club, but that added bonus of having the opportunity to get promoted with your hometown team, I’m not sure what can beat that in your footballing career.”

A Well-Traveled Career
Paterson brings a wealth of experience to Coventry, having started his career at Walsall before making a name for himself in the Championship with Nottingham Forest. During his time at the City Ground, he enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions in the 2013/14 campaign.
Following his time at Forest, he had spells at Huddersfield Town (loan), Bristol City, and Derby County before joining Swansea City, where he played a key role in their promotion push. His most recent move saw him depart the EFL for the first time, signing with Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer, but his time in the United States lasted less than a season.
Paterson is eager to make an impact and fulfill a lifelong ambition by playing for Coventry.
“To score for Coventry and have the fans sing my name would be amazing and that’s exactly what I want and is what I’ve always wanted in my career.”
What Next for Paterson?
With a short-term deal in place, Paterson will be hoping to impress and earn a longer stay at the club. His versatility, ability to operate across the front line, and experience at this level make him a useful addition as Coventry look to secure a playoff spot.
His knowledge of the Championship, along with his technical ability, could provide a spark in the final third, especially as the Sky Blues look to add depth in attacking areas.
