Burnley manager Scott Parker could soon have additional selection dilemmas as key players Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho edge closer to a return from injury ahead of this weekend’s derby against Preston North End.
The duo, who have both missed the Clarets’ last four matches, are now back in training and may be in contention to feature in the squad.
Competition for Places as Key Players Return
Despite their absence, Burnley have continued their strong form, securing an impressive 2-0 victory over Hull City in midweek. Parker, speaking about the potential return of Brownhill and Koleosho, said:
“They’re both training now. The Hull game was a little bit too early for them, [but] I suspect that maybe they might be around it or available at the weekend.”
The return of the duo, alongside Aaron Ramsey, further strengthens Parker’s squad depth as Burnley enter the final 14 games of the season.

Burnley’s Strength in Depth
The Clarets’ squad depth has been a key factor in their recent performances, with Parker having the luxury of bringing players like Joe Worrall, Marcus Edwards, and Jeremy Sarmiento off the bench against Hull. Additionally, experienced names like Jonjo Shelvey and Manuel Benson were not even required.
With a wealth of talent available, Parker is keen to avoid rushing players back but welcomes the competition within his squad:
“We don’t need to rush players back, but you’re starting to see that [competition]. There’s a lot of players coming back to fitness.
There’s big competition here now and people want to keep the shirt and deserve to keep the shirt as well. That’s healthy, healthy competition, which every team needs and I’m pleased that we have that at the moment.”
Crucial Run-In Begins
Burnley currently sit in a strong position in the Championship promotion race and will be aiming to continue their push towards the Premier League with a win over local rivals Preston North End.
With Brownhill and Koleosho potentially available, Parker will have even more firepower at his disposal for the crucial weeks ahead.
Writer’s View
Burnley’s squad depth is proving to be a huge asset at this stage of the season, and the imminent return of Brownhill and Koleosho only strengthens their options. With competition for places at an all-time high, Parker has the luxury of easing them back into the side rather than rushing their recovery. If Burnley can maintain their form, a return to the Premier League looks increasingly likely.
