Bristol City Figure Confirms Contract Talks

Bristol City director Brian Tinnion has confirmed that discussions have taken place with Nahki Wells regarding his contract situation.

The experienced striker, one of the all-time leading scorers in the Championship, is out of contract this summer. Still, both the club and player are comfortable with the current position as the Robins continue their push for a play-off spot.

Relaxed stance over Wells’ future

Wells, 33, has been a key figure for Bristol City this season, contributing seven goals and three assists in 26 Championship appearances. However, uncertainty remains over whether he will remain at the club beyond the current campaign.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol (via Bristol Live), Tinnion confirmed that manager Liam Manning has held discussions with Wells but that any final decision will depend on the club’s budget for next season.

“We’ve had the conversation with Nahki, Liam spoke with him last week and he’s comfortable with the position we’re in,” said Tinnion.

“We haven’t had the budget for next year, we’re going to speak to Nahki when that’s in place.

“He’s really comfortable with the position he’s in, he’s enjoying his football, and playing extremely well. He’s a brilliant person around the dressing room and a brilliant person on the pitch and is really comfortable with the situation, as are we.”

Wells remains a vital figure

Despite Bristol City’s attempts to recruit long-term options in attack, Wells has remained their most reliable forward. The Robins have struggled for consistency in front of goal, with the Bermudian stepping up alongside Anis Mehmeti to lead the attacking line.

Young striker Sinclair Armstrong is seen as a promising talent but is yet to produce consistent goal returns, while summer signing Fally Mayulu has already departed after failing to make an impact.

With 45 goals and 18 assists in 222 appearances for Bristol City, Wells has proven his worth, and the club may need to consider extending his stay if they do not find a suitable long-term successor.

What next for Bristol City?

The Robins’ attacking struggles have hindered their ability to build momentum, with back-to-back league wins recorded just once this season. Scott Twine has started to show glimpses of his best form, but questions remain over who else can consistently contribute in the final third.

Writer’s view

While Wells remains a valuable asset, his long-term future at Bristol City remains unclear. His experience and goal contributions have been crucial, but with the club looking for a long-term attacking solution, much will depend on budget constraints and whether the Robins believe they can find a reliable replacement.
