Sheffield United Identify New Target After QPR Bid

Sheffield United are lining up a loan move for Crystal Palace’s Rob Holding as negotiations for Queens Park Rangers‘ Jimmy Dunne slow down.

The Blades have submitted an improved offer to The R’s for their centre-back but Marti Cifuentes’ side are seeking to sign a replacement before sanctioning any move away for the 27-year-old. It is believed by the Sheffield Star that a deadline has been set by United for QPR to agree to a deal.

Holding Move Emerges

According to Sky Sports News, the former Arsenal defender is a candidate to join Chris Wilder’s side on loan as they wait for movement from QPR surrounding Dunne. The 29-year-old has played just one game since arriving at Selhurst Park in 2023 but has played in The Eagles’ under-21 matches this season.

Pete O’Rourke has reported that a deal has been agreed between Palace and Sheffield United, with the club currently having both Harry Souttar and Jamie Shackleton out with injuries but are expected to return in the near future.

Wilder has admitted that the club “desperately need to bring a centre-back in” this window with just Anel Ahmedhodzic and Jack Robinson available to him. The Sheffield Star has also reported that the club are considering a bid for Millwall‘s Japhet Tanganga.

Writer’s View

Rob Holding feels like he would be an experienced choice to bring in at Sheffield United but not the first choice as they try and get Jimmy Dunne to the club. if QPR want to get a deal done they need to move fast. A move for Tanganga sounds good on paper but seems unlikely as Millwall would be reluctant to sell their best defender so late in the window and with an injury crisis in defence would leave The Lions threadbare it simply wouldn’t make sense unless a very generous offer was made by The Blades. Nevertheless Holding can be a great support and depth option to Chris Wilder’s promotion ambitions.
