Norwich City Target Double Transfer Swoop

Norwich City have made a late push in the transfer window as they look to strengthen their defence, targeting Emmanuel Fernandez from Peterborough United and Ruairi McConville from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Canaries have had a bid accepted for Fernandez, but the player is yet to agree personal terms on a move that would see him return to Peterborough on loan for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, talks are ongoing regarding a permanent deal for McConville, who has entered the final six months of his contract at Brighton.

Norwich Closing in on Defensive Reinforcements

Manager Johannes Hoff Thorup and sporting director Ben Knapper have identified both players as potential additions to bolster Norwich’s defensive ranks.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson confirmed Norwich’s bid for Fernandez following the Posh’s 3-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers, which the defender missed due to concussion protocols.

“The club have accepted a bid from a Championship club. I think it’s a huge bid, but at the moment, he cannot agree personal terms. Everything has been agreed between the clubs, but him and his representatives can’t agree on personal terms.” – Darren Ferguson

With the transfer window closing on Monday, Norwich will be hoping to finalise at least one of the deals in time.

Brad Hills Expected to Depart

As part of their squad restructuring, Norwich are expected to allow Brad Hills to leave on loan, with League One side Stockport County leading the race for his signature.

Thorup hinted at potential departures making room for new arrivals, stating:

“We need to spend tonight and probably tomorrow looking if there’s any of our young guys where it is best for them to go out on a loan, and then that could create space for us to bring in players.”

What’s Next for Norwich?

Fernandez, 23, has only been a regular in the Peterborough first team for a few months, but Norwich clearly see potential in the centre-back. If the deal goes through, he would remain on loan at the Posh for the rest of the season before linking up with the Canaries in the summer.

McConville, meanwhile, could be a more immediate addition if Norwich agree terms with Brighton. The 20-year-old defender’s contract situation makes him an attractive option for a permanent transfer.

Writer’s View

Norwich’s late push for defensive reinforcements is a smart move, particularly given their promotion ambitions. While securing Fernandez appears complicated due to personal terms, McConville could prove a valuable long-term addition. With Hills set to leave on loan, Norwich must finalise at least one deal before Monday’s deadline to ensure squad depth in the crucial months ahead.
