Luton Town Step Up Interest In League One Star

Luton Town are set to test Peterborough United’s resolve in the coming days by launching a bid for attacker Ricky-Jade Jones, according to Football League World.

The Hatters have found themselves in a second successive relegation battle this season after falling out of the Premier League last May. This time they are fighting to salvage their Championship status and they have shown throughout the transfer window that they are willing to splash the cash in order to do so.

They have spent big by bringing in the likes of Isaiah Jones from Middlesbrough, Theo Aasgaard from Wigan Athletic and Millenic Alli from Exeter City, but it appears as if they are not done yet. They have been heavily linked with Wycombe Wanderers’ Richard Kone, although the Chairboys have made it clear they will not allow a reunion with Luton boss Matt Bloomfield.

Luton Switch Tact

After missing out on Kone, Bloomfield is looking to raid another League One team in order to bolster his squad. It’s no surprise to see the 40-year-old target players from the third tier. After all, it is a division in which he is well versed thanks to his time with Wycombe.

It is claimed that Peterborough’s Jones is now on the radar. The 22-year-old has been linked with an exit from the Weston Homes Stadium this month, with the likes of Cardiff City, Middlesbrough, Norwich City and Sheffield United all said to have been keen.

The attacker is out of contract at the end of the season, although Posh will be entitled to a fee set by a tribunal if he opts to leave in the summer. Luton want a deal now though, although the report states the fee is unclear.

Jones has six league goals to his name this season, although has only scored once in his past nine outings. That came in the 5-1 defeat against Lincoln City last weekend.

Writer’s View

Luton mean business and are showing that they are not willing to accept their fate. Few would have predicted they would be fighting at the bottom of the Championship this season, but the Hatters are clearly willing to back new head coach Matt Bloomfield. Ricky-Jade Jones is a player that has built a big reputation with Peterborough, but the League One outfit have shown that they won’t be swindled in the transfer market. This could be a tough one to get done before Monday’s deadline.
