Bournemouth and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Mark Travers is on the verge of joining Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season.
As previously reported, Boro have targeted the stopper this window, and he is now travelling north to undergo a medical with the Championship side. The 25-year-old, who has 82 senior appearances for the Cherries, is expected to complete the move in the coming days.
Strengthening the Goalkeeping Ranks
Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough have been in urgent need of reinforcements between the posts, with both first-choice Seny Dieng and backup Sol Brynn sidelined due to injuries. Travers, who previously had a Championship loan spell with Stoke City in 2023, now looks set to provide crucial cover for Boro as they push for a play-off spot.
Football Insider had previously reported that Middlesbrough were in advanced talks with Bournemouth over the deal, and with Travers now undergoing his medical, the move appears to be all but finalised.
“Middlesbrough are now in line to get their man, with Travers making the trip north in order to undergo a medical with the Championship club,” Football Insider reports.

Middlesbrough’s Active Transfer Window
It has been a busy January at the Riverside Stadium, with Morgan Whittaker arriving permanently from Plymouth Argyle and Ryan Giles rejoining on loan from Hull City. The club has also converted George Edmundson’s loan from Ipswich Town into a permanent transfer and won the race to sign 18-year-old Brayden Johnson from Eastbourne Borough.
Middlesbrough currently sit sixth in the Championship table and will look to cement their place in the play-offs when they take on Sunderland on Monday, 3rd February.
What This Means for Bournemouth
While Middlesbrough reinforce their squad, Bournemouth continue their strong Premier League campaign, currently sitting seventh in the table, just one point off the top four. Travers still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at the Vitality Stadium, securing his future with the Cherries until the summer of 2027.

Travers’ move to Middlesbrough is a logical step for all parties involved. With Bournemouth’s goalkeeping department stable, the Republic of Ireland international has the opportunity to gain regular game time in the Championship while helping Boro’s promotion push. For Michael Carrick’s side, securing an experienced shot-stopper at this stage of the season could prove vital in their bid to remain in the play-off places.
