Carlisle United Confirm Double Departure

Carlisle United have confirmed a double departure, with two teenagers leaving on loan.

Dan Hopper Leave On Loan

Carlisle’s teenage prospect Dan Hopper will spend the remainder of the 2024/25 season on loan with Penrith. The 17-year-old previously enjoyed a one-month spell with the Northern League Division One side, impressing with his performances.

During his initial stint, Hopper scored four goals in five appearances, including a memorable brace in a 2-1 derby victory against Carlisle City. He also found the net against Northallerton Town and Whickham, showcasing his potential as a forward.

Hopper’s return to Penrith comes in time for their rearranged derby clash with Carlisle City at Gillford Park on Tuesday night. The promising young player will continue his development under Darren Edmondson and Richard Prokas, both former teammates of his late father, Tony Hopper, who was a Carlisle United and Workington Reds favourite.

Hopper made his first-team debut for Carlisle earlier this season in an EFL Trophy match against Wigan Athletic. He also shone in the FA Youth Cup, scoring in the Blues’ third-round extra-time defeat to Plymouth Argyle, as well as in the first-round victory over Altrincham.

Taylor Charters Joins Queen of the South

In another loan move, Carlisle’s Taylor Charters has joined Queen of the South until the end of the season. The 23-year-old midfielder, who has struggled for game time under head coach Mike Williamson, will look to reinvigorate his season with the Scottish League One side, currently in third place and chasing promotion.

Queen of the South manager Peter Murphy, himself a Carlisle United legend, expressed his excitement about Charters’ arrival. “He is a strong, physical presence and gives us other options,” Murphy said. “We’re pleased to bring Taylor to the club, and we appreciate Carlisle’s cooperation in making this move happen.”

Charters has made 89 appearances for Carlisle, scoring three goals. A product of the club’s academy, he etched his name into Blues history with the decisive penalty in the 2023 League Two play-off final victory over Stockport County at Wembley.

Williamson commended Charters for his service to the club, stating, “Taylor is a great lad who needs to play football. His service to the club has been fantastic, and we wish him all the best.”
