Norwich City With Five Star Victory Against Struggling Swans

Norwich City moved to within five points of the top six with a 5-1 demolition of the top six with a big win over Swansea City at Carrow Road.

Josh Sargent marked his first start since October with two goals, while late strikes from Lewis Dobbin, Ante Crnac, and Emiliano Marcondes sealed a commanding victory for the Canaries.

Sargent Sparks Norwich’s Dominance

Despite an even contest early on, Sargent broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time. The 24-year-old striker, returning from groin surgery, slammed the ball past Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux to give Norwich a crucial lead. His presence proved pivotal as he added a second just moments after Swansea’s Liam Cullen had equalised in the 62nd minute.

Sargent’s second goal came after Crnac capitalised on a defensive lapse, setting up the striker to fire into the bottom corner. With 17 goals in his last 20 home Championship appearances, Sargent reaffirmed his importance to Norwich’s promotion ambitions.

Late Goals Seal the Rout

Aston Villa loanee Dobbin extended Norwich’s lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute after dispossessing Josh Key and rifling the ball into the net. Swansea’s defensive frailties continued as Crnac robbed Hannes Delcroix to score a fourth before setting up Marcondes for the fifth after his own shot hit the crossbar.

Swansea’s Cullen had earlier brought the visitors level with a well-timed header from Key’s cross, but defensive errors and Norwich’s relentless pressure condemned them to a fourth consecutive away defeat.

Norwich Reassert Home Dominance

The victory highlighted Norwich’s formidable home form, where they have lost just two of their last 28 league matches. With 36 goals in 14 games at Carrow Road this season, the Canaries are a force to be reckoned with on their own turf.

“It was important to win. We’ve struggled with energy and a lack of available players, but the character we showed made the difference. The third goal decided the game, and I’m pleased we didn’t slow down and chased the next goal. Josh Sargent is a quality striker, and the team is always different with him in it,” said Norwich head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Swansea’s Struggles Continue

Swansea, who have collected just one point from their last five games, remain two points clear of the relegation zone in 21st place. Despite moments of promise, including Cullen’s equaliser and a stunning save from Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn to deny Florian Bianchini early on, the Swans’ defensive errors proved costly.

Writer’s View

Norwich’s clinical performance, spearheaded by Sargent’s return, will serve as a timely boost in their pursuit of promotion. The Canaries’ attacking depth and resilience were on full display, while Swansea’s defensive vulnerabilities left them exposed.
