AFC Wimbledon Confirm Short-Term Winger Deal

AFC Wimbledon have added to their attacking roster with the short-term signing of Marcus Browne.

The former Oxford United player has been without a club since leaving the League One play-off winners in May, having been in the squad at Wembley when Des Buckingham’s side beat Bolton Wanderers.

Dons Make Attacking Move

Wimbledon have been a solid attacking outfit in League Two this season, with 35 goals in 23 games and have been spearheaded by Matty Stevens. The Dons have also recently received an attacking injury blow, with Omar Bugiel out of action since their Boxing Day draw with Swindon Town.

Speaking to the media following his arrival in South London, the former Middlesbrough player said (Quotes via Oxford Mail):

“This team is in a great position. While everything is moving forward, I feel I can bring my qualities and help propel the club even further up the table, and be in and around it at the end of the season.”

Dons boss Johnnie Jackson added:

“I’ve tried to sign him previously but it didn’t quite work out, so I’m delighted to finally bring him to Wimbledon.

“He is creative and dynamic in attack, has an eye for goal, and quality beyond this level. It’s great to add another attacking option to help us during the second half of the season.”

Writer’s View

On paper, it’s a good move for Wimbledon and they have done well to secure someone who could still be playing at a League One level. However, there will naturally be concerns about his injury record. He only played 15 games last season with two hamstring injuries. With the ever-dependable Josh Neufville currently occupying the right wing where Browne would play, he might not get much game time but could be a game-changing substitute option when Johnnie Jackson needs him.
