Luton Town Set To Make Key Decision According To Report

Rob Edwards’ time in charge of Luton Town is set to end after a report has suggested the club have agreed that the 42-year-old will leave by mutual consent.

The former Watford boss has led Luton to a promotion and an admirable performance in the Premier League but have fallen behind massively from their pre-season expectations and are now firmly embedded in a relegation battle in the Championship.

Edwards Exit Closing In

According to a report from Football League World, Luton Town and Rob Edwards have agreed to part ways by mutual consent after a troublesome opening half to the season. The Hatters have lost their last four games in a row, leaving them in 20th place and two points above the relegation zone in the Championship.

After a summer which saw them spend fairly lightly and sign players such as Cardiff City‘s Mark McGuinness and Daiki Hashioka from Belgian side St. Truiden, Town failed to gain any sort of momentum and the mood in the fanbase quickly soured, coming to a head following a defeat away to Sheffield United, with the travelling support booing Edwards. Despite some pick-up in performances across November and December, Luton have failed to break clear of the bottom three and are now in a very precarious spot.

Writer’s View

It looks like that Rob Edwards’ spell in charge of Luton is over. He can be credited for his work getting the club promoted through that brilliant play-off final win over Coventry City and put in a resolute but ultimately in vain performance in the Premier League. It was expected that he had built his side up in that top-flight season to get themselves back up within their first season back in the Championship but that plan very quickly went out of the window.

It felt there should have been a few times he got the boot, including that Sheffield United game but the goodwill he had conjured has got him to this point but no further. Arguably they may have done it too late with managers like Alex Neil and Mark Robins now off the market with new clubs, but could still pick at potential candidates like Steven Schumacher and David Wagner, who are both linked to relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle. The club is a good prospect with the future investment into a new stadium but it is now pivotal to keep them in the Championship this season.
