Lincoln City Boss Addresses Striker Issue

Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala has confirmed he will look to bring a striker in this month if the right one becomes available.

The Imps have struggled for form as of late, winning just one of their previous 12 League One outings. They have also failed to score in their last four, highlighting their issues at the top end of the field.

Yesterday’s latest blank saw them draw 0-0 with Stevenage at the LNER Stadium. It was a game of low quality, with Sheffield Wednesday loanee Bailey Cadamarteri testing the goalkeeper from long range before Jovon Makama hit arguably the miss of the season when he blasted over from close range with the goal gaping.

Lincoln fans were spoilt during the second half of last season thanks to the electric form of Joe Taylor, who arrived at Sincil Bank on loan from Luton Town. His 10 goals in 19 appearances saw the East Midlands-based outfit miss out on the play-offs on the final day, but nobody has come close to replicating that form this season.

Cadamarteri is currently the club’s top goalscorer with eight goals in all competitions, whereas Makama hasn’t found the net since early December. Fringe attacker Freddie Draper fares much worse, having not scored since October. Elsewhere, Rob Street has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan whilst Tyler Walker has been ruled out until March.

Skubala Hints At Change

Following yesterday’s blank, Skubala addressed the situation. Speaking to Red Imps Club on BBC Sounds, the 42-year-old said:

“We need to help the front line. They’re young lads, so there’s no doubt in my mind that we need to help at the top of the pitch.

“Again, in January, it’s what’s available. It’s not like we can go out and do anything we want to do. It doesn’t work like that in football.

“If we can add to the squad and to that area and that unit, yes, we definitely want to do it. But they’ve got to be good, they’ve got to be in our range and they’ve got to be everything we need at the moment.”

Writer’s View

It’s clear that Lincoln need something this month. However, the January window is notoriously a tough one and they will want to get it right. They struck gold with Joe Taylor last season and in an ideal world they would no doubt love to bring him back. The Imps have already admitted they can’t afford that deal though, so it will be interesting to see who they target in the coming weeks.
