Norwich City Close In On Aston Villa Forward

Norwich City look set to bolster their attacking outlets with the loan signing of Aston Villa’s Lewis Dobbin.

The 21-year-old had previously been at fellow Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion but has failed to be given much game time since arriving at The Hawthorns.

Move Nearing Completion

According to Nick Mashiter on the BBC Sport website, an agreement for Dobbin is set to happen soon, with the player already visiting The Canaries’ training ground.

Villa terminated the forward’s loan after being handed just one start in eighteen matches and only played a total of 325 minutes across 17 Championship games. It marked his first football since he was signed by the Birmingham club over the summer from Everton in a £10 million move.

Chris Brunt, one of the caretaker managers in charge of The Baggies whilst a replacement for Carlos Corberan is found, said to BBC Radio WM:

“Villa have asked to call him back. He’s not played as much as they’d have wanted for a loan player coming out of a Premier League club.”

Norwich are currently in 11th place in the Championship and six points away from the play-offs, with sixth place being occupied by West Brom.

Writer’s View

Lewis Dobbin will be a useful asset to Norwich City as they look to push for a play-off place and can offer an alternative to the imperious Borja Sainz. However, as Liverpool’s Kaide Gordon has found, a spot in this team is not assured. He has only played nine times this season despite being a regular player on the bench. Dobbin and Aston Villa will hope that the former Derby County loanee will not have the same misfortune and can be a meaningful contribution to Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side. Between him and Louie Barry who will likely find a Championship club this window, Villa will have two great attacking talents featuring in the Championship for the latter half of this season.
