Narcis Pelach has opened up following Stoke City‘s decision to remove the Spaniard from his post after just over three months in charge.
The Potters moved to oust the former Norwich City coach after a dire spell of form of just three wins in 19 games and a loss to Leeds United at home on Boxing Day proved to be the final straw for Sporting Director Jon Walters.
“Was Not Enough”
Pelach was appointed in September to replace Steven Schumacher but he failed to deliver any results in his first senior management role in five years and ultimately faced the boot, leading Stoke to search for their third manager of the 2024/25 season.
The former Huddersfield Town assistant has since commented following the decision to sack him, saying (Quotes via Stoke-On-Trent Live):
“It did not go the way I wanted and I am sorry for that. I did everything I could and unfortunately my best was not enough.
“I am really grateful to John Coates and John Walters for giving me this opportunity. I am sending a BIG thank you to the players who have given me lot of respect, affection and enthusiasm. Also, to the staff for the support received. I genuinely wish Stoke City and the fans all the very best. THANK YOU.”
Stoke City icon Ryan Shawcross has been installed as interim manager once more and will lead the club into their next game against Sunderland tomorrow.
Writer’s View
The Narcis Pelach experiment at Stoke City has ended and ultimately their gamble for an inexperienced, attacking coach failed to gain any sort of momentum. The decision to sack Steven Schumacher was dubious to begin with but now with this latest development it now feels that removing the former Plymouth Argyle man was certainly the wrong choice. Stoke now need to appoint an experienced head at this level and someone who can safely steer them clear of the relegation spots with the remaining half of the season.
