Our Three Predictions for Grimsby Town vs Port Vale

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 23/10
  • Second Prediction: Both teams to score – 37/50
  • Third Prediction: Jayden Stockley to score at any time – 12/5

First Prediction for Grimsby Town vs Port Vale – Match to end in a draw – 23/10

In recent times, both sides have struggled for form, especially the visitors for this clash. Although there is a six-position gap between the two teams, Grimsby are just three points behind Vale, adding extra pressure to this match. The Valiants have drawn a total of seven games, two of which have come in their last five results. Although Grimsby don’t often draw in general, they have poor home form, and Vale have the best away form in the division, meaning this will be a tightly-matched encounter between two sides in need of the three points.

Second Prediction for Grimsby Town vs Port Vale – Both teams to score – 37/50

Grimsby are one of the highest-scoring teams in the league, scoring 30 goals in 22 games. They have only failed to score a goal in three League Two matches this season. However, they also have one of the worst defensive records in the league and have the worst defensive record out of the top 17 sides currently making up the league table. Vale’s goal-scoring form isn’t as good as their opponents but they still score an average of 1.23 goals per game and have only failed to score in five fourth-tier games this season. With both side’s good goal-scoring form, as well as the Mariner’s awful defensive record, it will come as no shock if both sides manage to score in this encounter.

Third Prediction for Grimsby Town vs Port Vale – Jayden Stockley to score at any time – 12/5

Although Darren Moore’s side haven’t been scoring as many goals as they did at the start of the season recently, with the aforementioned Grimsby defensive record, this could be a high-scoring affair. Despite not scoring since late October, Jayden Stockley is still the club’s joint top-scorer, level on four goals a piece with Ethan Chislett. The 31-year-old moved to Vale Park in the summer for an undisclosed fee from Fleetwood Town and has since provided eight goal contributions in 21 League Two matches. There will be no doubt that the striker will be hoping to add to his tally on Sunday, and against this type of opponent, he could well do so.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As previously mentioned, both sides come into this one in mixed form, Grimsby winning three and losing two in their last five, whilst the visitors have only won once and drawn and lost twice.

Three points for either side would be crucial, with the Mariners level on points with three sides above them in the play-off spots, meaning that depending on other results around the grounds they could potentially leave 2024 in the play-off places. Although Vale currently occupy an automatic promotion spot, they are only three points ahead of their opponents and the other teams tied on points with Grimsby. This means Vale could even drop out of the play-off spots if results didn’t go their way.

Since 2011, these sides have met nine times, across two competitions. David Artell’s side often come out the better against their opponents, winning six, and the majority of the ties. The other three are made up of two draws, with Vale only winning once against Grimsby since 2011.
