Wrexham have been linked with yet another Leeds United attacker ahead of the January transfer window according to reports.
The Red Dragons have been mooted with a move for Patrick Bamford amid his struggles to find a regular place in Daniel Farke’s side, but his large wages have become a sticking point in the negotiations for the former England international.
Red Dragons Set For Transfer Showdown
According to reports from journalist Graeme Bailey, Wrexham have shown interest in a move for Joe Gelhardt as The Whites consider possible solutions to the 22-year-old’s lack of game time. He has played just three times for the club this season, twice in the Championship and once in the EFL Cup.
The former Sunderland loanee has also been a major player of interest for Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, a move Gelhardt was reportedly keen on earlier this month. The Ibrox club are second in the league but are nine points behind archrivals Celtic having scored much fewer than Brendan Rogers’ side.
According to Bailey, the move for Bamford is a non-starter, with Leeds preferring to keep him at Elland Road to assist with their promotion bid. He has played just 102 minutes in the Championship so far but is yet to start a game which has alerted many clubs, including some in Italy, to the possibility of a January move.

Wrexham already have a stacked attacking lineup, with Ollie Palmer, Paul Mullin, Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher all able to contribute to scoring. Whilst Bamford now seems to be off the cards, a move for Gelhardt could be an interesting one. He will give a younger age profile to the existing options and a step down into League One should be a great place to get himself regularly playing again. However, the move to Rangers seems the obvious choice as they are struggling to find goals so far this season and that struggle to overcome their opponents already seems to have cost them the Scottish Premiership title. If he can make a difference there, it may force Daniel Farke to reconsider his status at Leeds with three years still on his contract.
