Leeds United outcast Joe Gelhardt is reportedly “keen” on a January move to Scottish Premiership side Rangers.
The forward has struggled for game time at Elland Road and has only played nine minutes of football across two Championship appearances this season.
Gelhardt Looks To Glasgow
According to Football Insider, Gelhardt is “keen” on a move to Ibrox this summer as multiple teams circle to sign the out-of-favour forward. Leeds are still undecided on whether the move would be temporary or permanent.
Other clubs in the Championship are competing with the Scottish giants who have financial worries to deal with, leading to their preference to be loan moves across all their dealings in January.
The Liverpool-born player was a starlet with Wigan Athletic before Leeds moved to buy him in August 2020, playing 42 times for the club and scoring three times across the following two seasons.
He has a previous loan spell from Elland Road to Sunderland as Daniel Farke began to recruit other talent such as Swansea City‘s Joel Piroe and Largie Ramazani in previous windows.
Rangers are currently struggling both for goals and in general in the Scottish Premiership. They are third place in the table, behind Aberdeen and Celtic and are 11 points behind their Old Firm rivals.
Writer’s View
Joe Gelhardt does not look like he will get a look in at Leeds across the next six months and with a hip injury currently sidelining him, he will not get any chances to convince Daniel Farke to keep him at Elland Road. He would be a good choice for Rangers but is a largely untested player and has not been a regular in the first team since his time at Wigan. At a time the Glasgow club will want to secure a proper goalscorer, Gelhardt does not really fit that description.
