Luton Town Boss Identifies 31-Year-Old’s Key Attribute

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has heaped praise on Jordan Clark, describing the 31-year-old midfielder as a player who continues to improve with age.

Clark, who joined Luton on a free transfer in 2020, has become a key figure at Kenilworth Road, thriving under Edwards’ leadership.

Clark’s Journey and Transformation

Clark began his professional career as a winger but has successfully transitioned to a central midfield role. Signed by former manager Nathan Jones, who labelled him the “best free transfer” in the club’s history, Clark has evolved into a versatile and reliable player for Luton. He has featured in 18 matches this season, missing just two games, one due to suspension.

Discussing Clark’s contributions, Edwards highlighted his leadership and technical ability:

“Clicks has been excellent this year. He’s getting more and more experienced, I think he’s improving as a footballer. He’s someone that you want on the ball as much as possible. He’s a leader for us, and a really important player for us.”

Set-Piece Mastery and Championship Impact

Clark has stepped up in Alfie Doughty’s absence, taking over set-piece duties and delivering crucial assists, including a corner that set up Carlton Morris’s equaliser against Stoke City. His accurate deliveries have placed him at the top of the Championship’s “big chances created” list with 10, ahead of notable players like West Brom’s Tom Fellows and Preston’s Sam Greenwood.

Speaking about his role, Clark said:

“We know it’s a big threat of ours and it’s nice to have. A big responsibility for myself, so I’ve just got to keep working… I know we’ll get chances and score goals from them.”

A Player for All Situations

Clark’s versatility has been crucial for Luton. Edwards noted his ability to excel in multiple midfield roles, whether as a deep-lying pivot or in more advanced positions. Despite injuries in the squad forcing tactical adjustments, Clark has remained consistent and dependable, reflecting his growth as a player.

With his technical skills, tactical awareness, and leadership qualities, Clark continues to be a standout performer for the Hatters. His contributions in both open play and set-pieces are pivotal as Luton aim to climb the Championship table and solidify their position in the league.
