Former Glasgows Rangers player Charlie Adam has been dismissed as Fleetwood Town manager following a difficult run of results in League Two.
The decision comes after Fleetwood’s 2-0 defeat at Barrow on Saturday, leaving the team languishing in 18th place with just 23 points from 19 matches this season.
Adam’s Tenure at Highbury
Appointed just under a year ago, Adam became Fleetwood’s third manager of the 2023/24 campaign, following the departures of Scott Brown and Lee Johnson. Despite being unable to prevent the club’s relegation from League One last season, Adam was entrusted with leading the team in the fourth tier. However, his efforts to turn around Fleetwood’s fortunes have fallen short, culminating in his departure just days before Christmas.
Fleetwood Town owner Jamie Pilley thanked Adam for his service in a statement:

Adam’s Playing Career and Managerial Transition
Adam is best remembered for his playing career, which included a pivotal role in Blackpool’s promotion to the Premier League in 2010. After joining the Seasiders from Rangers, he captained the side to a memorable 3-2 victory over Cardiff City in the Championship Play-Off final at Wembley. During his time at Blackpool, Adam scored 34 goals and provided 22 assists in 98 appearances, earning him a move to Liverpool in 2011.
Following a season at Anfield, Adam went on to play for Stoke City, Reading, and Dundee before retiring in 2022. His transition into management began with Fleetwood Town, but his tenure has been marked by inconsistency and poor results.
