Watford Eager For League One Swoop: 19-Year-Old Targetted

Watford have joined Hull City and Coventry City in expressing interest in Reading defender Tyler Bindon, according to a report by Football League World.

The Hornets are monitoring the 19-year-old as the January transfer window approaches, with the young defender potentially available due to his contract situation.

Rising Talent at Reading

Bindon, who joined Reading in August 2023, has quickly established himself as a key player for the League One side. The New Zealand international has made 64 appearances in all competitions, including 20 this season, scoring three goals. His performances have caught the attention of several Championship clubs, including Watford.

Reading risk losing the highly-rated defender for free when his contract expires in June 2025. To avoid this, the Royals may look to cash in during the January window, despite their push for a play-off spot under manager Noel Hunt.

Watford’s Interest

Watford’s pursuit of Bindon comes as they aim to bolster their defensive options for the second half of the season. The 19-year-old’s versatility and composure have made him an attractive prospect, particularly given his experience on the international stage, where he has earned 13 caps for New Zealand.

Bindon’s adaptability, honed during his stint at Los Angeles FC in the MLS before moving to Reading, suggests he could thrive in the Championship. Watford may face stiff competition from Hull City, managed by Ruben Selles, who previously worked with Bindon, and Coventry City, who are also keen on the young defender.

What’s Next?

Reading must weigh their options carefully. Losing Bindon mid-season could be a significant blow as they aim to maintain their promotion push. However, retaining him without a contract extension risks losing the player for nothing next summer.

Whether Watford will submit a formal bid in January remains to be seen, but the Hornets appear ready to test Reading’s resolve as they seek to strengthen their squad with a promising young talent.

Writer’s View

Tyler Bindon represents a smart investment for Watford, combining youth with experience at both club and international levels. His defensive versatility could provide the Hornets with much-needed depth. However, Watford must act decisively in January to secure his signature amidst competition from Championship rivals.
