Swindon Town Lose Duo To League Two Rivals

Jamie Russell and Danny Rose have left Swindon Town to join Salford City, strengthening the Ammies’ academy coaching team.

The League Two club announced the appointments on their official website, alongside the addition of former Burnley and Wigan Athletic player Chris McCann as Lead Youth Development Phase coach.

Russell’s Return to Salford

Jamie Russell, now Salford’s Academy Manager, is no stranger to the club. He previously worked with Salford from 2017 to 2020 during the early stages of their academy’s development. After a stint as Swindon Town’s Head of Football, Russell returns to a club that recently upgraded its academy to Category 3 status.

“It’s really exciting. I was here when the academy started as a Category 4 academy, and now I’m excited to be part of a Category 3 academy and look to strive forward,” Russell told Salford’s official website.

Russell also emphasized the rewarding nature of player development, saying, “When you work in development, it’s great to see young players come through and make debuts, or even pursue careers across academies.”

Rose Brings Experience to Salford

Danny Rose, who played over 600 games during his career with clubs like Oxford United, Portsmouth, and Swindon Town, joins Salford as Head of Academy Coaching. At 36, Rose is embracing this opportunity to shape the future of Salford’s academy.

“This is an amazing opportunity to learn and contribute. It’s a bit of a blank canvas in terms of re-designing the programme and implementing what an academy structure can look like from top to bottom,” Rose said.

Rose’s extensive playing career and growing coaching expertise will be invaluable as Salford aims to nurture young talent through their revamped academy setup.

Salford City’s Ambitions

Salford City’s academy has been undergoing significant improvements, with the recent upgrade to Category 3 being a pivotal step in their growth. The additions of Russell, Rose, and McCann highlight the club’s commitment to building a robust developmental framework.

The Ammies, currently 12th in League Two, will look to carry forward their momentum after a 3-0 victory over Notts County. They sit just four points off the play-offs and will face Accrington Stanley this weekend in a bid to climb further up the table.
