Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has expressed his desire to keep versatile player Hakeem Odoffin amid uncertainties surrounding his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old has been a key figure for the League One side, making 16 league appearances this campaign and scoring 12 goals in his time with the club.
Manager’s Plea
“If I’m Santa Claus, I give him a deal, but I’m not Santa Claus,” Evans told the Rotherham Advertiser.
Evans emphasized Odoffin’s importance to the team, highlighting his ability to perform in multiple positions:
“Haks can play right-back, centre-back, centre mid, play the ‘10’, play up front. He’s an incredible kid. He knows my views on this. But he also knows that I need to make my representations to the board at the right time. When I go to see Tony Stewart, I have to make sure it’s with an air of confidence and that we’re not where we were in the table.”
Rotherham’s Stance
The January transfer window could represent Rotherham’s last chance to cash in on Odoffin should he not sign a new contract. However, Evans and the club are keen to tie the London-born player down to a longer-term deal, which would be a significant boost as they aim to solidify their position in League One.
