Decision Made On Sunderland Attacker – Exit Imminent

Sunderland attacker Nazariy Rusyn is reportedly set to leave the club during the upcoming January transfer window, according to sources.

The Ukrainian forward has struggled for game time under head coach Régis Le Bris, falling behind the likes of Tommy Watson, Romaine Mundle, and Wilson Isidor in the pecking order.

Lack of Game Time

Despite injuries on Sunderland’s left flank, Eliezer Mayenda has been preferred over Rusyn, further limiting the 26-year-old’s opportunities. Since the start of the season, Rusyn has only featured six times off the bench, amassing a total of 81 minutes of play. His last appearance came in the win against Derby County at the Stadium of Light in October.

“He played in Ukraine as a left winger, I think. So we tried it for 20, 25 minutes during a friendly game. But I think at the minute he is better as a number nine. If we feel that we won’t have game time for his development and for the team, maybe it is a better option to go on loan for six months and then we see again,” said Le Bris during the summer transfer window.

Decision Confirmed

Reports claim that the decision to let Rusyn leave has already been made, although it remains unclear whether it will be a loan move or a permanent transfer. Additionally, there is no indication yet of which clubs might be interested in signing the player.

Rusyn’s potential departure is not the only change anticipated at Sunderland. Fringe players Abdoullah Ba and Jewison Bennette are also reportedly on their way out, with neither featuring in recent games despite the team’s injury challenges. Adil Aouchiche, however, may remain, especially after providing an assist for Patrick Roberts in a recent match.

Potential Outcomes

Rusyn joined Sunderland with promise but has been unable to establish himself as a regular under Le Bris. With limited opportunities on Wearside, a move could provide the forward with a much-needed chance to revive his career, whether on loan or through a permanent deal.

Writer’s View

Rusyn’s impending departure highlights the competitive nature of Sunderland’s attacking roster. Despite his versatility, he has struggled to make an impact this season. A move could benefit both player and club, allowing Rusyn to gain regular minutes elsewhere while Sunderland reshuffles its squad. With other fringe players also potentially exiting, the January window could be pivotal in shaping the remainder of Sunderland’s campaign.
