‘Not Much Time To Talk’ – Leeds United Boss Discusses Key Player’s Future

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has updated supporters on the contract situation with one of the club’s top performers this season, as reported by Inside Futbol.

Farke has revealed there have been no discussions with Junior Firpo about the fullback’s future at Elland Road.

Too Early To Discuss

Despite the Dominican Republic international coming to the end of his contract in June, Farke believes it is too early to discuss what will happen with the 28-year-old’s future.

Firpo is one of Leeds’ top performers this season having joined the club in 2021 from Barcelona. His time at Elland Road has been somewhat disrupted by injuries but he has been a regular under Farke when fit.

Not Enough Time To Talk

Farke has admitted that the busy schedule has left limited opportunities for the club and player to sit down and discuss a new deal.

No, at the moment there is not much time to speak too much about his future.”

“We are playing all three days; obviously, during the injury, he should concentrate on his proper rehab. There will be a moment when we talk about this topic.”

Leeds Delighted With Firpo’s Development

It hasn’t been plain sailing for Firpo at Elland Road but Farke is pleased with the development and improvements the player has made.

“He had a difficult start to life at Leeds United.”

“We backed him a lot, at least under my regime and he has developed fantastically and has delivered really good performances.”

We are happy and delighted with his development, but it’s much too early to speak about anything that happens beyond the summer.”

Firpo is expected to return from a hamstring injury in January to aid the club’s bit for a return to the Premier League.

Writer’s View

It is unusual for a club to allow a player’s deal to run into the final stages without talks taking place if they are looking to keep the player.

He has performed well across the last two seasons but perhaps the club are waiting to see which division they will be playing in next season before decisions like this are to be made.
