Kaide Gordon’s future at Norwich City is under review as Liverpool weigh the possibility of ending his loan early ahead of the January transfer window.
The talented winger, who joined Norwich on transfer deadline day, has struggled for game time, sparking discussions about his development.
Struggles for Minutes
Since making the move to Carrow Road, Gordon has managed only eight appearances, accumulating just 165 minutes of play. His most recent outing came on November 23 during a brief stoppage-time cameo in Norwich’s 2-2 draw against West Brom. He has been notably absent from the squad in their last three fixtures, raising questions about his role within the team.
Liverpool, keen to see the young talent develop, are reportedly dissatisfied with the limited opportunities Gordon has had under Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup. The Reds are now considering bringing him back to Anfield to explore a different loan arrangement that could better support his growth.
Norwich City’s Perspective
Thorup has previously spoken about Gordon’s progress, highlighting the winger’s eagerness to improve and his positive contributions in training. Speaking last month, the Norwich manager expressed a balanced view of the player’s situation:
“As long as he keeps having a good impact on the group, in terms of training level and also his personality. If he starts to be too frustrated about the whole situation, that, of course, is something we need to look at. But he’s eager to learn, and I know he had a meeting with Glen [Riddersholm] the other night just to go through a lot of his situations and also his physical stats, and a lot of those things in the game that we need from him to be even better, for him to have more minutes.”
Thorup emphasised that Gordon has been proactive in seeking feedback from the coaching staff, adding: “He approached the coaches when he wants feedback, and that is good to see. As long as that’s the mindset for him, then there’s space for him in the group.”
Despite these assurances, Liverpool appear unconvinced that the current setup is providing Gordon with the opportunities he needs to thrive. The club’s focus remains on ensuring the winger continues to develop, potentially through a move to another Championship club where he might secure more consistent game time.
Writer’s View
Kaide Gordon’s loan spell at Norwich highlights the challenges young players face when breaking into competitive first teams. While the move initially promised valuable experience, the lack of meaningful minutes has hindered his progress. Liverpool’s consideration of an early recall reflects their commitment to his development, and a more tailored loan arrangement could provide the consistency he needs to fulfil his potential.
