Morecambe Eager To Extend Liverpool Loanee’s Stay

Morecambe manager Derek Adams has confirmed the club’s intention to extend Liverpool loanee Rhys Williams’ stay at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

Williams, who joined the Shrimps in August on an initial loan deal until January, has been a regular fixture in the team, making 19 appearances so far this season.

Williams’ Impact at Morecambe

The 23-year-old has established himself as a key player for Morecambe since joining the club, with his performances earning praise from Adams. Williams, who had a difficult spell in previous loan moves, has benefited from regular football at Morecambe, and his consistency on the pitch has been noticeable. His 19th appearance came in Saturday’s 3-0 loss against Grimsby Town, which marked a strong first half of the season for the centre-back.

“He’s been excellent for us and it’s given him an opportunity to play week in, week out, which he needs and wants. He’s improving with every game.” – Derek Adams

Williams has previously spent time on loan at clubs like Swansea City, Port Vale, Blackpool, and Aberdeen, but his time at Morecambe has allowed him to settle into a more prominent role.

Request to Liverpool for Loan Extension

Adams confirmed that he has already contacted Liverpool to request an extension of Williams’ loan until the end of the season. The manager is eager to keep the defender at Morecambe, believing that additional time at the club will further aid his development and provide the Shrimps with stability at the back for the remainder of the campaign.

“Hopefully, we can have him until the end of the season. Then, when he does go back at the end of the season, he’ll do so as someone who’s played 40-odd games and got regular football under his belt.” – Derek Adams

Williams’ experience in regular first-team football is invaluable, and the Shrimps are hopeful that Liverpool will see the benefit of allowing him to stay and continue his progress. With Morecambe looking to improve their position in League Two, keeping Williams for the rest of the season could be a crucial move.

Extending Rhys Williams’ loan could be a smart move for both the player and Morecambe. Regular football has allowed him to develop significantly, and his performances suggest he is capable of continuing to improve. For Morecambe, having a player of Williams’ potential for the full season would provide defensive solidity and continuity, which will be important as they push for better results in League Two.
