Exeter City have announced that defender Jack Fitzwater has signed a new contract, extending his time with the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Grecians in September 2023 after leaving Livingston, has made 16 appearances for the first team so far, with nine of those coming this season, including in the recent 2-2 draw against Wycombe Wanderers.
Part of Exeter’s Success
Since his arrival, Fitzwater has played a key role in Exeter’s success, contributing to their victories in all three Vertu Trophy matches this season. Additionally, he has featured in the Premier League Cup U21 team as an overage player, helping the squad top their group. The new deal cements his future at the club, with manager Gary Caldwell praising his character, personality, and high-level performances whenever called upon.
“I’m delighted. It happened quickly, and I’m really happy and I cannot wait for the next couple of years,” Fitzwater said about his new contract. “As a professional you always have to be ready to take your chance, and I have played quite a few games in the EFL Trophy and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Obviously, I want to be playing more games in the league going forward. Hopefully, this season and the seasons going forward I can establish myself as a regular starter.”
Gary Caldwell also expressed his satisfaction with Fitzwater’s new deal, highlighting the defender’s value to the team both on and off the pitch.
“Since Jack has come in he hasn’t played as much as he would have liked due to various things, but his character and his personality, and whenever he does play, is at such a high level,” Caldwell said. “He is the type of player, and type of person, that we want to build the team and the squad around.”
Fitzwater joins players like Jack Aitchison and Imi Niskanen in signing long-term contracts with the club, signaling the club’s intention to build around key, influential figures.
