Millwall Face New Loanee Injury Setback

Millwall‘s striker woes this season look set to continue as Neil Harris confirmed a major setback for Josh Coburn.

The Middlesbrough loanee has only played nine matches for The Lions this season due to a previous groin injury in October but was forced out of action during the draw to Oxford United over the weekend.

Harris Confirms Injury

Speaking to the South London Press, former Gillingham boss Neil Harris confirmed that Coburn would be missing until at least 2025 with a foot injury. He said:

“Josh is ruled out for the forseeable future – after Christmas. He had got a broken metatarsal in his foot.

“He left the ground in a boot at the weekend, you know there is damage when that happens. It is probably a similar timeframe as Jake Cooper, you’re looking at probably both being eight weeks until they return.

“He is going to miss a large chunk of an important period of football. Josh, when he is on the pitch, showed in the first half his qualities as a Millwall number nine and why, his importance to the squad and why we were so desperate to bring him in, as a profile as a striker at the football club.

“It is a big loss but we have coped very well without him in the past and we will have to do in the future.”

Tom Bradshaw came on in his place against Oxford, whilst ex-Notts County man Macaulay Langstaff and Mihailo Ivanovic are also capable of playing in the number nine role.

Writer’s View

Yet again Millwall are faced with bad luck on the injury front. Josh Coburn had seem to be one of Neil Harris’ regular options whether it was from the bench or starting, so to lose him for a significant period like this Christmas fixture list is tough. The Lions do have the options in strike for the upcoming run of games but another injury blow would put them straight back to where they were a month or so ago and might necessitate a January transfer move.
