Sheffield United Boss Takes Aim At Coventry City Players After Draw

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder had his say on the sacking of former Coventry City manager Mark Robins following the 2-2 at the Coventry Building Society Arena, as reported by The Coventry Telegraph.

Wilder claimed he knew the Sky Blues players would run a bit more with a new managerial appointment imminent.

Mark Robins Could Still Be In A Job

Speaking after the 2-2 draw, Wilder didn’t hold back on criticising the opposition players for not putting in the effort he saw for their former boss.

“Maybe if they’d run around more like that before their manager might still be in a job. Whether I am being controversial about it, we knew, and maybe it’s just human nature that they would run around a little bit more today…”

Wilder insists his side were aware of the challenge they were to face due to a new manager being close to taking the Coventry hot seat.

“And we knew the challenge of somebody potentially taking over, whether they were there today or not, or in the next 24/48 hours, you know, media stuff that I believe will happen. I might be wrong but it’s a big football club they are up against and I stand by what I said about Mark (Robins), who did an incredible job.”

A Point Gained

Having had Anel Ahmedhodzic sent off on the stroke of halftime, the Blades were unable to hang on to their lead when Bobby Thomas equalised with ten minutes to go.

Despite dropping two points in their quest for promotion, Wilder was pleased with his side against a strong opposition.

“They started the better but we scored against the run of play. They got back into it with a cross-cum-shot, which we’re disappointed with from a defensive point of view, but they were always going to be difficult opponents, and for me it was a point gained with how the game went.”

“I think the comforting thing from our point of view is we know exactly what we’re getting, game in and game out, and that’s why we’re close to the top of the league.”

Writer’s View

Coventry have picked up two good points since the departure of Mark Robins, drawing 2-2 against the top two in the division. However, they had won the two matches before the defeat that spelled the end for Robins so whether they had given up running around for their former manager is doubtful.
