Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson was left seething after his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Reading, reports The Peterborough Telegraph.
Ferguson found himself in the referee’s book and will serve a touchline ban.
Taking Emotion Out Of The Game
The Posh boss was furious after the match, accusing the game’s rule-makers of trying to remove emotion from football.
“I’m sick of this. The game has gone.”
“…I’ve just gone on the pitch to tell my players whatever I’m telling them and I’ve been booked.”
“There’s no malice in it, I’m not having a go at anyone but now I’m banned because it’s a booking.”
“I’ve been booked for showing enthusiasm.”
Ferguson went on to explain his displeasure at how those involved in football are expected to act.
“The game is absolutely gone, no emotion in it is allowed, we’re meant to be like robots. It does my head in.”
The caution was Ferguson’s third of the campaign and he will now serve his ban against Notts County in the FA Cup second-round fixture that takes place next Saturday.
Peterborough’s Inconsistency Strikes Again
As an attacking force, The Posh are to be reckoned with, with only league leaders Wycombe Wanderers having scored more than the 32 goals scored by Ferguson’s men.
On the flip side, they are defensively the worst in the division alongside side second-bottom Shrewsbury Town.
The defeat to Reading was Peterborough’s fifth in 10 League One matches, a run that has brought only three victories.
Harvey Knibbs was Reading’s match-winner as he scored a brace to put the match out of reach for the home side.
Posh pulled one back in the sixth minute of added time through Emmanuel Fernandez, with the goal scorer being booked almost immediately after his strike. That booking will see another suspension for Posh, with Fernandez missing their next League One fixture against Burton Albion.
Writer’s View
While many will agree with Darren Ferguson’s assessment that the game is becoming robotic, he knows a manager cannot enter the field of play.
Perhaps he is more frustrated with the way the season is going for his side than the booking and suspension.
