Bolton Wanderers Boss Says ‘Our Floor Has Been Too Low’ After Blackpool Win

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt wants his side to give the right account of themselves from now until the end of the season after their victory against Blackpool, as reported by The Bolton News.

Wanderers moved level on points with the playoff places after Aaron Collins grabbed a stoppage-time winner.

Huge Gap Between Floor & Ceiling

Evatt has come under pressure during parts of the campaign that have seen his struggle to find any consistency. Big wins, such as the 4-1 thrashing of Stevenage, have been cancelled out by crushing defeats, like the 5-0 humbling at Stockport County.

We need to be more consistent but when we do lose, it is about how we lose. We have to lose being ‘us’ and Stockport and Huddersfield in particular just wasn’t ‘us’.”

“Everyone loses games – Birmingham have lost at Shrewsbury today, anything can happen, and Manchester City have been losing, so if they can, anyone can.”

“It is just the manner in which we have lost games and our floors has been too low at times, we have to rectify that.”

Great To Have Them Back

The last-gasp victory over Blackpool saw the return to action of George Thomason and Gethin Jones, something that delighted Evatt.

“Just having him and Gethin around the group this week has helped.”

“They are leaders, throwbacks in terms of how they go about their work and business.”

“They are vocal and that kind of leadership in the modern game has disappeared but not with those two. They make people around them better, of course, they are good players in their own right but they make those around them better and we saw that in the second half today.”

A Player Capable Of Big Moments

The match-winner was Aaron Collins, who scored for the sixth time this season. He had missed two chances prior to his goal but managed to escape Evatt’s wrath.

“That’s football, isn’t it? I am probably going to shout at him for missing that easy opportunity but this game is all about margins and moments and Aaron is certainly a moments player who is capable of big ones.”

Writer’s View

It was vitally important Bolton bounced back in the league after the humiliating defeat at Stockport. Despite their inconsistencies, Evatt’s side are hanging on to those above them and will surely fancy their chances of a top-six finish.
