Former Norwich City favourite Timm Klose has announced his retirement from professional football.
The defender had been making the transition towards coaching following his departure from Carrow Road and had been playing for Basel’s Under 21 side last season as a go-between for the players and staff.
Championship Winner Calls Time
Having played football for Basel in his youth and then Thun in Switzerland, Klose made the switch to German football with Nurnburg before the Bundesliga regulars Wolfsburg signed him. He would rarely get a regular spot in the squad across his three years there and Norwich City pounced to secure his services in January 2016.
He made his debut in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur and played 10 times that season but City would fall back down to the Championship. He would be a staple in the Championship for the club and appeared 33 times across all competitions as The Canaries sealed the second-tier title.
That would ultimately be his last season playing for Norwich, as a Posterior Cruciate Ligament injury would take him out of action for that second spell in the Premier League. He was loaned out to his boyhood club Basel and soon after made a return to England with Bristol City on a free transfer in the January 2022 transfer window.
Basel once again would come calling and Klose became a player-coach figure for the Under 21 side of the Swiss giants until he left at the end of the season. He called time on his playing career, saying in a statement (Quotes via The Pink ‘Un):
“That’s it, folks. After many years, a great journey is coming to an end. It hasn’t always been all rainbows and sunshine, but even the hard and rocky times have shaped me into who I am today.
“Thanks to all the clubs who had the courage to sign me: Basel, Thun, Nurnberg, Wolfsburg, Norwich City and Bristol City. I have always given everything for them and tried to leave my heart on and off the pitch.
“Until we meet again… Love, Timm.”
