Middlesbrough’s Finn Azaz is grateful for the trust shown in him by his manager and teammates after recapturing his form, according to a report from The Northern Echo.
Azaz made a good start to the season but then had to endure a spell of six games where he failed to contribute any goal involvement.
The Trust Has Helped
Through that spell of six matches without a goal or assist, Azaz was comforted by the trust he was shown by his fellow players and manager, Michael Carrick.
“The trust from the manager in me in that position, and the trust from my teammates to just constantly give me the ball, really helps. It’s been really enjoyable.”
Happy With Performances
The Republic of Ireland international admits to being pleased with his overall performance this season and insists goals and assists aren’t the only way to measure his contribution.
“People always look at goals and assists, of course. But I’d like to think if people are watching the games they’ll see that even when they weren’t coming, the performances were still good.”
“I’ve been really happy with them. Obviously, if you are consistent with performances, the goals and assists will come.”
When the creativity had momentarily dried up, Azaz’s focus was firmly on being consistent and doing what he could for his team.
“I focused on trying to be consistent and nailing down a main role and position in the team and I’m really happy to do that.”
Azaz’s Season So Far
This is the 24-year-olds first full season on Teesside having joined in January from Plymouth Argyle.
The playmaker is in the middle of a promising run of form that has seen six goal involvements in the last five games. In one of those matches he only managed 25 minutes after his teammate Hayden Hackney was sent off and Carrick reshuffled.
Statistically, he rates highly among his peers and has contributed five assists already.
- 5 assists
- 39 chances created
- 26 successful crosses
- 362 successful passes
Writer’s View
Azaz has been in excellent form and is one of the main reasons for Middlesbrough’s upturn in form and push for a playoff spot.
He sounds like he has a strong self-belief and an excellent attitude, coupled with the support of his manager and teammates and it will be no surprise to watch him continue to flourish.
