The left-back will feature in an Under-21 Professional Development League game against Sheffield United next Tuesday, November 19.
Adebisi, who joined Posh from Crewe Alexandra, suffered the injury shortly after his arrival and underwent surgery following just two pre-season appearances. Manager Darren Ferguson has confirmed that the club has taken a cautious approach to his rehabilitation to ensure a full recovery.
Ferguson’s Long-Term Plan
Speaking to the Posh Plus service, Ferguson said:
“Rio looks good and strong, and obviously he’s fresh. We’ve had a long-term plan for Rio ever since he picked up his injury, and we will resist any temptation to accelerate it just because he’s getting close to a return. He will play for longer in a game the following week. There is no point in rushing him.”
Adebisi’s return is a welcome boost for the League One side, who will also see the return of on-loan Manchester City defender Jadel Katongo. Katongo, recovering from a hamstring injury, will join Adebisi in the Under-21 game. Ferguson noted that Katongo, while primarily a centre-half, offers versatility and options in multiple positions, including right-back and midfield.
Depth in Defence
Ferguson praised his current defensive options, highlighting the performances of Oscar Wallin and Manny Fernandez as a strong partnership, with George Nevett also impressing when called upon. While Katongo and Adebisi aim to return to full match fitness, the manager emphasised the importance of building depth across the backline for the challenges ahead.
Katongo’s development remains a priority for both Posh and Manchester City, with Ferguson stating, “The most important thing for him and for City is he plays games, although he has to get into the side first.”
With Adebisi and Katongo set to feature in the Under-21 League, Peterborough will be keen to see their defensive lineup strengthened for the remainder of the season. Their returns could play a crucial role as the team pushes to solidify its position in League One.
