33-Year-Old Makes Sheffield Wednesday Future Claim

Marvin Johnson, a pivotal player for Sheffield Wednesday this season, has expressed his desire to remain at the club beyond his current contract. The experienced winger, who joined the Owls in 2020, has been instrumental in their recent performances, contributing two assists in his last three games.

The 33-year-old is approaching his 150th appearance for the club, having already notched up 141 games and 40 direct goal contributions. Johnson’s consistent form and leadership on the pitch have made him a favourite among fans and a key component of Danny Röhl’s side.

Focus on Performance

Despite being in the final months of his contract, Johnson remains unfazed by the uncertainty, prioritising his on-field contributions. His resilience has been evident throughout his tenure at Wednesday, particularly during challenging periods such as his banishment from the squad last season. Under Röhl’s guidance, Johnson has revitalised his game, building a strong partnership with Max Lowe on the left flank.

“Like I always have done, I just keep my head down and work hard. I know by now that if you keep performing and keep working hard then your career will always look after itself. If you look in terms of security it’s not always nice, but I’ve always been a big believer that if you play and perform then the rest will take care of itself.” – Marvin Johnson

Johnson’s attitude towards his career reflects a belief in consistent performance over contract worries. Despite his age, the player feels as energised as ever, commenting, “I still feel 22! I feel good, I’m not even worried about age.” His fitness record further underscores his reliability, having avoided significant injuries throughout his career.

When asked about the prospect of a contract extension, Johnson said he is “definitely” open to discussions, expressing his appreciation for the club, coaching staff, and his teammates. His focus remains on contributing to the team’s goals this season, while his future plans, he says, “will take care of itself.”

Writer’s View

Johnson’s professionalism and adaptability have been crucial for Sheffield Wednesday, especially in high-pressure situations. His ability to overcome adversity, coupled with his ongoing contributions on the pitch, make him a strong candidate for a contract extension. As the Owls look to solidify their place in the Championship, retaining players like Johnson could be pivotal to their success.
