Swindon Town Man Set For National League Switch

Swindon Town‘s Jeff King is set to exit the club to join National League leaders York City according to reports.

The defender hasn’t played for The Robins in the league since the start of October against Tranmere Rovers and has played eight times in League Two this season, all under Mark Kennedy.

Wing-Back Bolsters League’s Best Defence

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, King is on his way out of The County Ground to join York, but it is unclear whether the move will be permanent or temporary. The Minstermen are currently leading the National League by one point from Forest Green Rovers and also boast the best defence in the division, only conceding 12 times in 17 matches.

Adam Hinshelwood has shuffled his deck in defence recently with the loan move of Thierry Latty-Fairweather to Maidenhead United until the new year after being told he has no future in North Yorkshire.

The former Bolton Wanderers man has plenty of National League experience at hand, being part of the Chesterfield side that won the league last year. He left the Spireites in the summer to join Swindon Town.

New Robins boss Ian Holloway had previously said that King was ready for more involvement in the squad ahead of their league game against MK Dons after featuring in their EFL Trophy win against Tottenham Hotspur’s under-21s side.

Writer’s View

It seems that Ian Holloway is beginning to assess who he wants to continue at Swindon Town under his leadership and for at least the short-term Jeff King is not a part of those plans. The 28-year-old does deserve better after what was a promising start under Mark Kennedy but looks to be a casualty of the changes made over the past two weeks. York City will greatly benefit from this move though, gaining an experienced National League player with a title under his belt as The Minstermen find themselves in an impromptu battle for the top spot.
