Burnley legend Sam Vokes has voiced his frustration after Jaidon Anthony was denied a winner against West Bromwich Albion earlier this week.
The Clarets headed to the Hawthorns in poor form having failed to win in their previous three games. A return to winning ways would’ve seen Scott Parker’s side move level on points with third-placed Leeds United. However, a defeat would’ve seen them slip behind West Brom.
In a game a few chances, Burnley looked to have taken the lead just before the hour mark when on-loan attacker Jaidon Anthony headed home after finding some space in the box. His celebrations were cut short though when the referee deemed there had been a push on Baggies defender Callum Styles.
The game went on to finish 0-0 but it was a case of ‘what might have been’ for the visitors. It’s a result which left them six points behind leaders Sunderland.
“It’s 100% A Goal”
Former Burnley striker Sam Vokes was a part of the punditry team for Sky Sports on Thursday night. Following the game, the ex-Wales international voiced his displeasure at the decision, claiming Anthony will be fuming. Via The Burnley Express, he said:
“It was 100 per cent a goal, I would be fuming if I was Jaidon Anthony.
“I can see why the referee has probably given it, he’s given him the chance to give it. But as far as the cross and the header goes, it’s a great header and he’s done everything right. He’s surprised as anyone else that the referee has blown up.
“You look at the players’ reactions and you can’t see many of the West Brom players react.”

Yes, it’s a frustrating decision but it’s yet another game where Burnley have drawn a blank. This was their third successive game without scoring and their fourth game in eight which has finished 0-0. With gaps starting to open up at the top of the table, Scott Parker needs his team to start finding the back of the net before they start falling further behind. They welcome Swansea City to Turf Moor tomorrow afternoon before the upcoming international break. Three points is a necessity.
