Bristol Rovers face some key decisions on player fitness as they prepare to host Lincoln City in Saturday’s League One encounter.
Manager Matt Taylor is monitoring the conditions of several squad members, with the final line-up dependent on a series of late assessments.
Bristol Rovers Injury Situation
The most pressing concern surrounds forward Promise Omochere, who remains uncertain to feature due to a lingering ankle issue. The 24-year-old, who impressed with two goals and three assists this season despite a disrupted pre-season, was forced off early in Rovers’ recent loss to Reading and has missed two subsequent cup fixtures. This injury leaves his participation against Lincoln City in the balance.
Taylor is cautious about Omochere’s readiness and aims to give the player every chance to prove his fitness in the lead-up to kick-off. However, the striker’s return could still hinge on last-minute testing.
“It’s touch and go with Promise,” Taylor explained. “Every day we seem to be getting closer, but there’s still discomfort and pain within that ankle joint, so that will be a late decision.”
Forde Back, Wilson Expected to Return
Meanwhile, Rovers look set to welcome back another attacking option in Shaq Forde. The 20-year-old striker missed the recent FA Cup clash due to suspension after receiving two yellow cards in the Reading game. However, his availability provides Taylor with a valuable offensive boost.
In defence, former Lincoln defender James Wilson is expected to return to the squad following a recent knee problem that saw him sidelined from cup duties. Wilson has been a pillar at the back this season, providing both stability and experience. With his knee now in improved condition, the 35-year-old’s presence on the pitch would be a welcome sight for Rovers fans.
“James has had his knee drained and then injected to lubricate the joint,” Taylor shared, adding, “He’s settled down well, so we expect him to be ready for the weekend.”
In other updates, both Gatlin O’Donkor and Joel Senior remain unavailable due to hamstring injuries, with the manager confirming they will not be rushed back into the squad for this match.
Writer’s View
Bristol Rovers face a pivotal match with Lincoln City and will be hoping that both Omochere and Wilson can bolster the line-up. Taylor’s cautious approach is wise given the potential for recurrence in ankle and knee injuries. Fans will look forward to the possible return of Forde and Wilson’s contributions on the field, as the Gas aim to build momentum in League One.
