Sheffield United Takeover Nearing Completion

A long-awaited takeover deal for Championship side Sheffield United will be confirmed in the next 48 hours, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon.

A deal for American Steve Rosen to take the reins at Bramall Lane is nearly done, with months of speculation over the Blades’ ownership set to end. The deal, worth around £105 million has been in the works for months, and will now go to the EFL for their approval.

The takeover comes with Chris Wilder’s side in strong form having been relegated from the Premier League in a poor 2023-24 campaign. The South Yorkshire outfit currently lie 3rd in the second tier with the automatic promotion spots in their sights, and have one of the best defences in the league.

The ownership situation has been a messy one for the club in recent years, with Saudi Prince Abdullah having looked to sell the club for a number of years now. In that time, several bids have fallen through, but this one looks to be going all the way.

Quite what shape the hierarchy will take under the new ownership, however, is yet to be known. Nixon is reporting that the club’s new custodians want to spend on new faces while Wilder is happy to stick with the current squad with his side doing well at the moment. In addition to this, Nixon is reporting that scout Des Taylor is set to be appointed to a senior role, which brings about more question about what the future holds at Sheffield United.

Writer’s View

This news will be music to the ears of Sheffield United fans. They’ve had a tough few years on the ownership front with several near misses, but they look like they’ve found the man to take the club forward. With this off-field progress, as well as the good results on the pitch, things seem to be going well with great cause for optimism over the future at Bramall Lane.
