Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has relieved fears that Rhian Brewster may face another lengthy stint on the sidelines.
The Champions League winner with Liverpool has had a series of issues with his hamstring whilst at Bramall Lane but his latest fitness concern is a thigh issue. He has played 14 times so far for The Blades, already matching his total for last season.
Could Feature Tomorrow
Speaking to The Sheffield Star, Wilder was positive about Brewster’s situation and hinted he may play as the South Yorkshire side play Bristol City.
“We’re checking him. He got a bang to his thigh. It’s not a hamstring injury which was the biggest fear straight away because of his history with that part of his body.
“We’ll give him as much time as possible today to be ready for tomorrow.”
The 24-year-old started from the off in their most recent game against Blackburn Rovers but was replaced early in the second half for Tyrese Campbell, who scored the second, game-clinching goal at Ewood Park.
Wilder also delivered another boost with the confirmation Vini Souza is fine from his knock sustained in Lancashire. The Brazilian was wiped out by Makhtar Gueye which Wilder believed should have been a red card-worthy challenge.
The Blades play their final match away from home against Bristol tomorrow night ahead of the return of the Steel City Derby on Sunday, with midfielder Tom Davies being the only likely absence at Bramall Lane for United.
Writer’s View
Sheffield United will be relieved Rhian Brewster’s injury is not another hamstring knock. They will essentially be at full strength against bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday at a time when The Owls are missing a few crucial players. The Blades do look like the best of the pack that are hunting down Sunderland right now and should they continue their performances across the next month will certainly be a favourite for automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
