Sunderland Star Returns To Training Following Injury

Sunderland have received a major boost as striker Eliezer Mayenda was spotted back in training this week.

The Spanish international last played at the end of September in the win over Middlesbrough and was since ruled out of action. His absence saw the emergence of Wilson Isidor as the new striker for The Black Cats, an opportunity he has relished.

Mayenda Spotted In Training

The Chronicle has revealed that in an open training session on Tuesday, fans had spotted the Sunderland number 12 amongst those participating as they prepare to face Queens Park Rangers this weekend and maintain their lead at the top of the Championship.

Regis Le Bris’ side have opened up a five-point gap to second-placed Burnley and even with Mayenda out have also topped the charts in terms of goals scored across the second tier. Romaine Mundle and Isidor have both led the charge in his absence, having four goals a piece.

Injury List Still Extensive

Whilst this will be a big boost for Sunderland going into their trip to Loftus Road, they are still without seven players going into that game, including four defenders. Elsewhere, Ian Poveda is still confined to the injury bench following his withdrawal against Derby County and Lens loanee Salis Abdul Samed is unlikely to feature in the squad and make his Black Cats debut.

Writer’s View

Sunderland’s striker who led the line at the start of the season is back in training and will surely boost an attack that is already firing on all cylinders. Even Eliezer Mayenda is slow to get back up to speed, Regis Le Bris has a few choices to go to in the forms of Wilson Isidor and Aaron Connolly. The 19-year-old took his first real opportunity with The Black Cats with both hands and was an exciting prospect at the start of this season, scoring against Sheffield Wednesday.
