QPR’s teenage midfielder Kieran Morgan scored a crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Coventry City at Loftus Road, helping his side claw back a point in a tense Championship relegation clash.
In just his second senior appearance, Morgan’s second-half volley cancelled out Haji Wright’s early strike for Coventry.
Early Setback for QPR
Coventry wasted no time in taking the lead, with Haji Wright putting the visitors ahead inside four minutes. The American forward netted his fourth league goal of the season after a quick counter-attack. Milan van Ewijk’s header was saved by QPR goalkeeper Paul Nardi, but Wright was on hand to convert the rebound, giving the Sky Blues the perfect start.
QPR, under the guidance of Marti Cifuentes, responded well to going behind, but Coventry’s game plan frustrated the hosts. The Sky Blues slowed down the tempo, limiting QPR’s attacking options. Early substitute Koki Saito, alongside Ilias Chair and Paul Smyth, found it difficult to break down Coventry’s defence, often restricted to speculative long-range efforts.
Despite their lead, Coventry almost doubled the advantage shortly after the break. Brandon Thomas-Asante came close to turning the ball in at the far post, but QPR’s defence held firm to keep the deficit at one.

Morgan’s Moment of Magic
Cifuentes turned to his bench to spark a comeback, bringing on 18-year-old Morgan and Lucas Andersen in the second half. It was Morgan who made the difference, scoring a 63rd-minute equaliser. The goal came somewhat against the run of play after a combination between Andersen and Jimmy Dunne freed Paul Smyth down the right flank. Smyth’s cross into the box was met by Morgan, whose volley bounced into the ground and looped over Coventry goalkeeper Oliver Dovin into the net.
With the score level, both teams pushed for a winner in the final stages. Coventry’s Ellis Simms had a late effort brilliantly saved by Nardi, denying him a fourth goal in as many games against QPR. At the other end, Dovin pulled off a vital stop to prevent Andersen from snatching all three points for the Hoops in the dying seconds.
The draw sees QPR move off the bottom of the Championship table, while Coventry find themselves slipping into the relegation zone alongside them.
Writer’s View
Kieran Morgan’s equaliser will provide a boost to QPR in their fight for survival. His composure under pressure, particularly in just his second senior appearance, is a promising sign for the Hoops. Coventry, meanwhile, may rue their missed chances and inability to close out the game, as both sides remain stuck in the relegation battle.
