Luton Town striker Jacob Brown has described his match-sealing goal against local rivals Watford as one of the “best feelings” of his career.
Brown netted Luton’s third goal in a 3-0 derby triumph on Saturday, helping secure a significant victory for the Hatters at Kenilworth Road.
Late Goal Caps Perfect Day for Luton
Coming off the bench in the second half, Brown made an immediate impact. The 26-year-old forward, still working his way back to full fitness after a lengthy knee injury, was introduced in place of Carlton Morris during the final stages of the game. With Luton already 2-0 up thanks to earlier goals from Jordan Clark and Morris, Brown seized his moment in stoppage time.
A long pass from goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski found Brown, who managed to evade Watford defender Ryan Porteous, despite claims of a foul from the opposition. The referee waved play on, allowing Brown to drive forward, cut inside Angelo Ogbonna, and fire the ball into the bottom corner.
“I didn’t really touch him too much, I didn’t think it was a foul,” Brown said about the incident with Porteous. “When I got it under control, I just made sure I hit the target… It was one of the best feelings as I’ve been out for so long.”
Brown’s goal was his first since December 2023, marking a significant moment in his comeback from injury. He revealed how determined he was to contribute in the derby, especially after missing a large portion of the previous season.

Luton’s Depth Shines Through
Luton’s victory was not only about Brown’s individual performance but also the resilience shown by the entire squad. Head coach Rob Edwards was forced to make several changes due to injuries and fitness concerns. Tom Holmes, Reece Burke, Tahith Chong, and Tom Krauß were all withdrawn during the match. At the same time, Morris was also substituted as a precaution after recently returning from his own injury layoff.
The replacements, including Brown, Daiki Hashioka, and Marvelous Nakamba, played crucial roles in maintaining the lead and securing the clean sheet.
Writer’s View
Brown’s comeback goal couldn’t have been scripted better. After a long absence, scoring in a derby and in such a decisive fashion highlights his importance to Luton. More than just a personal victory, it showcased the strength in depth that will be crucial for Luton’s campaign. His return to form could be the spark they need to push forward in the season.
