‘I Don’t Like Disappointing’ – Luton Town Boss Responds To Watford Win

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards relieved some of the mounting pressure on his shoulders with a commanding 3-0 victory over bitter rivals Watford at Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters, who had struggled in the league with only two wins from nine games, delivered a physical and disciplined performance to overwhelm the Hornets in a fiery local derby.

Luton Take Control Early

Luton, sitting 21st before kick-off, seized the advantage in the first half with Jordan Clark’s opportunistic goal. The midfielder cleverly diverted a powerful Tom Holmes shot past Watford keeper Daniel Bachmann, giving the home side a deserved lead at the break.

Watford, who could have gone level at the top of the table with a win, failed to cope with Luton’s aggressive style and didn’t register a single shot on target before halftime. Their struggles continued into the second half as Luton doubled their advantage just two minutes after the restart. Carlton Morris, left unmarked, headed in from close range following a well-delivered Alfie Doughty corner.

The Hornets, despite sitting in sixth, rarely threatened and appeared on course for a fourth consecutive away defeat. Luton’s control of the match and their ability to outmuscle Watford kept the visitors from mounting any significant response.

Edwards Seals Revenge with a Third

Adding to Edwards’ satisfaction was Jacob Brown’s injury-time goal, which wrapped up a resounding win. Brown’s low, precise finish from a long clearance by Thomas Kaminski ensured Luton’s third goal on a day that saw Edwards defeat his former club, Watford, who had dismissed him in 2022.

Watford’s only notable effort came in the 55th minute, but Tom Deli-Beshiru’s curling shot was easily saved by Kaminski. Earlier in the game, Holmes had almost gifted Watford a goal with an overhit backpass that narrowly missed the net. However, Luton’s defence remained resolute, and the visitors were unable to capitalise on brief moments of pressure.

“It’s been a tough start to the season, a tough start for all of us. We’ve taken a few hits, even during the game today, losing two centre-halves. But today I felt the love and passion from the fans,” said Luton manager Rob Edwards. “I care about this football club, I’m a fan as well as the manager. I don’t like disappointing people and I’ve felt that this year.”

Watford’s Woes Continue

For Watford, this defeat highlighted their away struggles, leaving them in sixth place as their winless run on the road stretched to four matches. Despite some promising spells, Tom Cleverley’s side lacked creativity and were unable to trouble the determined Luton defence.

This victory could mark a turning point for Rob Edwards and Luton Town. The team’s physical dominance and tactical discipline were clear, with Carlton Morris and Jacob Brown standing out. Meanwhile, Watford’s inability to handle Luton’s pressure raises questions about their promotion credentials.
