Our Three Predictions For Luton Town vs Watford

  • Prediction 1 – Halftime result is a draw – 2.18
  • Prediction 2 – Under 2.5 goals – 2.01
  • Prediction 3 – Watford to win – 3.59

First Prediction For Luton Town vs Watford – Halftime result is a draw – 2.18

A derby is always likely to be a close contest and this would be no surprise if the sides went in level at the break. The fans at Kenilworth Road are likely to be on edge following their last game at Sheffield United, which saw booing directed at Rob Edwards at full-time. This will be a feisty game and there looks to be not enough to separate the sides for one to have a clear advantage over the other.

Second Prediction For Luton Town vs Watford – Under 2.5 goals – 2.01

Both sides look to be missing their key scorers and from what options they do have, they have struggled to find the net so far. Luton’s Elijah Adebayo has played 10 games this season but is yet to get off the mark, whilst The Hornets’ Daniel Jebbison has failed to find the net in the five games he has played since joining from Bournemouth. Both sides still have some players who can find the net, such as the hosts’ Jordan Clark and midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru for Watford, but the goals may be few and far between in this contest.

Third Prediction For Luton Town vs Watford – Watford to win – 3.59

Despite the recent trend in this fixture of the home side winning, this game is the best chance for this to change. Luton are missing key personnel across the board, whilst Watford will be boosted by the return of two important defensive figures in Daniel Bachmann and Jeremy Ngakia. The visitor’s top goalscorer Edo Kayembe found the net in a cameo appearance against Middlesbrough in their last league match and did well for DR Congo in the international break.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Despite the atmosphere in the fanbase at Luton following their loss away to Sheffield United, they come into this derby match as the more in-form side. Of their last five, they have won two and drawn once, whilst Watford can only bank on wins against Middlesbrough and Sunderland in their column. The Hornets had also played Manchester City in that timeframe in the EFL Cup, with their fifth most recent game in the Championship being a draw against Coventry City.

Tom Cleverley’s side have been handed boosts over the international break, with the former Everton midfielder confirming first-choice goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann and Jeremy Ngakia will both be ready to play in this fixture. Summer signing Kevin Keben is still not fit from his knee injury, meaning his wait to finally make a debut for the Vicarage Road side will continue. The Hatters have had a less than fortunate international break, with club-record signing Mark McGuinness forced out of the Ireland squad through injury. That has been added to injury woes for Tahith Chong and Carlton Morris amongst others.

This fixture finally made its return in 2020 following a fourteen-year hiatus due to Luton Town’s financial troubles. Last season saw a temporary ceasefire as Edwards’ side embarked on their maiden Premier League voyage which was ultimately shortlived. In the last four editions of the Beds-Herts Derby, the home side has claimed the spoils, with Town claiming a 2-0 win at Kenilworth Road in the last clash. Defender Gabriel Osho and now Charlton Athletic midfielder Allan Campbell scored the goals to give Luton three points on the road to play-off final success in 2023.
