Luton Town Manager “Hopeful” Over Injured Trio

Luton Town’s boss Rob Edwards has provided an injury update before the Hatters host Championship leaders Sunderland at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday.

Edwards had to contend with four injuries in Saturday’s 3-0 home win over rivals Watford. Centre-back Tom Holmes was first to withdraw at half time, with fellow defender Reece Burke following shortly after in the second period. Tahith Chong and Tom Krauß also withdrew in the closing 35 minutes.

Three Luton Town Players in Contention

Despite the quick turnaround in fixtures, Edwards shared with the official Luton media team that three of the injured players could be fit to feature for the Sunderland encounter. The former Watford boss was not willing to share who remains in the treatment room though. However, he did admit that some tactical tweaks will be required to cover the absentees.

I need to play my cards close to my chest here a bit but we’ve got one out and we’re hopeful on three of them. We’re not likely to get one else who’s already been out back, but we’re hopeful, which is not too bad news.

We’re definitely going to have to make at least one adjustment, maybe more, and we’ll give as much as time to those players as possible.

Luton ended a three-match winless streak with their victory over Watford last time out. It was a strong team performance and the Hatters were dangerous with 13 shots and five on target, per Whoscored. Following on from an impressive result, Edwards challenged his players to keep the levels high against high-flying Sunderland.

Whoever is going to play has set themselves a standard after Saturday’s performance but we’ll go with who we’ll go with.

Writer’s View

Momentum will be key for Luton as they eye back-to-back Championship wins for just the second time this season. Luckily, the injury issues that arose on Saturday don’t seem too much of a concern at this stage and Edwards’ secrecy about the absent player from Chong, Krauß, Burke and Holmes suggests he may have a tactical surprise up his sleeve. Nonetheless, another key player will definitely be out alongside Shandon Baptiste and the suspended Liam Walsh.
