Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto shared his desire to improve despite winning the Whites’ Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for September.
After scoring just once in his opening seven appearances this season, Gnonto has kicked on recently. In his previous four appearances, the Italian has contributed with four assists and a goal, per Whoscored. His sole goal from September, a composed, first-time strike to open the scoring in a 3-0 home win over Coventry, was also voted as Leeds’ September Goal of the Month.
More to Come for Leeds United Forward Gnonto
Although Gnonto has improved his output recently, he was still shocked to receive his pair of September accolades. When reacting to the double swoop, the 20-year-old told the official Leeds media that he still wants to add more to his game as the season progresses.
It feels so good, I wasn’t expecting this.
As a team we work incredibly hard, and on a personal level, I’m trying to help the side as much as possible. To be recognised as player of the month is just amazing, I just want to keep going like this and hopefully many more are going to come.”
In addition, the Italian forward stated that he isn’t going to get carried away with a strong end to September. Expanding on his personal ambitions for the rest of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, Gnonto said he has higher levels to achieve.
It’s been quite nice, but I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied, because I know that I can improve even more. It’s been a good start, but at the same time, I’m far from where I want to be.
I practice every day for this, I know that my job is not done. I’ve many goals for the season, and hopefully I’m gonna reach them all.

What a difference a year makes. Rewind to 12 months ago and Gnonto was a want-away player at Elland Road and was outcast by Daniel Farke after refusing to play. But, the young forward was re-introduced into the squad last season and has since become a key figure for Leeds. There have been high hopes for Gnonto since he arrived in Yorkshire in 2022 for around £3.75 million. By his own admission, there’s more to come this season and a spell of consistency would do the 20-year-old and the Whites’ promotion push a world of good.
