As Lincoln City prepare to face Crawley Town tonight, head coach Michael Skubala has hinted at some key decisions he’ll need to make before finalizing his squad.
Last weekend, Lincoln City put up a spirited display in their 3-1 defeat to Birmingham City. With the game poised at 2-1, the Imps missed a penalty, earned after they swung the balance of power by bringing on reinforcements, one of whom may start this evening.
Erik Ring’s Chances Tonight
Despite the result, the team impressed with their intensity, and one standout moment came when Swedish winger Erik Ring entered the fray on the hour mark. With the score balanced at 2-1, Ring had a chance to change the game, and his energy caught the eye once again.
Ring has been making a strong case for more minutes, has shown promise during his substitute appearances. When asked what he needed to do for a start, Skubala was clear.
“Keep going,” Skubala said. “He’s growing all the time and I’ve been really impressed with the way Erik trains. Erik is a fantastic professional, very focused. Trains hard every day. He’s got huge power that people can see. So, even in the gym, he’s been a monster, and his attitude is fantastic. He’s adapting to League One football quicker than I thought he would.”
Despite Ring’s positive contributions in attack, Skubala acknowledged there are still areas the player needs to work on, particularly his defensive responsibilities. “We definitely know he’s an attacking threat,” Skubala continued. “His defensive work needs a bit more work, but he’s moving in the right direction and looks exciting for the future.”
Ring joined Lincoln City as their 11th signing of the summer transfer window and has made an immediate impact with his versatility. Primarily playing on the left despite being right-footed, he can operate both as a winger and a wing-back, giving Skubala more tactical options. The former AIK man impressed last season on loan at Helsingborg, where he scored six goals and provided an assist.

Michael Skubala’s comments about Erik Ring suggest that while the Swede is not far from earning a starting spot, there’s still development needed in his defensive work. His potential to become a regular in the side is clear, but for now, Skubala seems content with easing him into the demands of League One. Fans should watch Ring closely in the coming matches, as his attacking prowess could be a game-changer once he fully adapts to the English game.
