Luton Town delivered a resounding response both on and off the pitch after rivals Watford poked fun at their Kenilworth Road stadium in a video shared online ahead of their local derby.
The Championship clash on Saturday saw Luton triumph 3-0, much to the delight of Hatters fans, who were quick to turn Watford’s pre-match taunt against them.
Before the match, Watford posted a video on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, sarcastically captioned “taking in the sights.” The clip showed a rain-soaked alleyway near Luton’s stadium, complete with overflowing wheelie bins and litter. The video quickly went viral, racking up over eight million views.

Luton Turns the Tables
Despite Watford’s online banter, it was Luton Town who had the last laugh. The Hatters dominated the derby, controlling the game from the start and securing a well-deserved victory. Luton’s quick-thinking midfielder Jordan Clark put them ahead before half-time by diverting a Tom Holmes shot past Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.
In the second half, Luton doubled their lead just two minutes after the restart when Carlton Morris, left unmarked, headed in a corner from Alfie Doughty. The Hornets, who were aiming to climb level on points with the top of the table, struggled to cope with Luton’s physicality.

“Taking in the Sights” – Luton Hits Back
As the goals poured in, Luton’s social media team seized the moment to return fire. Using Watford’s own slogan against them, Luton posted a celebratory photo with the caption “Taking in the sights” — a cheeky nod to their rivals’ pre-match taunt.

Luton sealed their commanding performance in injury time, with Jacob Brown netting a third goal to round off the victory. Brown’s low strike into the bottom corner capped off a perfect day for Luton and their under-pressure manager, Rob Edwards.
Edwards, who had been sacked by Watford in 2022, enjoyed a particularly sweet victory over his former club. His side’s spirited and physical performance saw them climb out of the relegation zone, while Watford, now facing their fourth successive away defeat, remain in sixth place.
Our View
The online rivalry between Watford and Luton added plenty of spice to this fixture, but ultimately it was Luton who came out on top where it mattered — on the pitch. Watford’s viral video may have garnered millions of views, but Luton’s performance left no room for jokes.
